Father’s Day
“You alright?”
Valerie gives her brother a very tired look, shrugging and hanging her head. “I’ve been better.”
He sits next to her on the couch, and she can barely imagine what he feels. James inherited their father’s power. He had a special bond with the man.
“I want to go to the cemetery,” Valerie says suddenly. There’s a wet spot on James’ shirt where she has been pressing her face into. “I want to wish him a happy father’s day.”
James nods, dazedly. “I miss him,” he says, with utter pain in his voice.
“Yeah.” Valerie grabs a hold of his shirt and squeezes. Neither of them move. “Me too.”
school’s out
Normally, I’d be happy that school’s over. But this year, not so much. Not looking forward to another summer with just James as company…
